During the Paul Quinn College Commencement, they established a Paul Quinn College Achievement Award and in honor of Bishop College Grads they announced an award named the M. K. Curry Achievement Award and we selected George Wasai as this year's recipient.
George Wasai is in his 20th season with the Dallas Cowboys. He has spent 18 years working directly with the Dallas Cowboys in the Food and Beverage division as Director of Concessions. For the last three years he has worked with Legends Hospitality Management Services as Director of Food and Beverage at Cowboy’s Stadium.
Mr. Wasai is an alumnus of Bishop College, now known as Paul Quinn College, where he was a member of the infamous 1982 football team. Mr. Wasai was on the 1982 football team that went to the division play-offs. It was during his time at Bishop that he began his food and beverage career and developed his passion for community outreach. These combined experiences helped pique his interest in the professional sports industry career.
Community outreach has always been a driving force in the Food and Beverage business at Texas and Cowboys Stadium. Mr. Wasai plays an integral role in the stadium community outreach program in a variety of ways. He oversees program management of Non Profit groups that are a major component of the Concessions operation since the early 90’s. For almost 20 years the Dallas Cowboys Food and Beverage department has provided Non Profit groups the opportunity to raise funds to accomplish their goals and meet their group needs by volunteering their time to operate concessions stands.
His most notable community based accomplishment is a partnership with DARS (Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services). A favorite aspect of his job with Legends is the enthusiasm that the entire organization has for accepting all types of employees, and realizing that there is a place for everyone. He is proud that he is part of an organization that values diversity. As an organization, they were able to look within their business profile and expand its community outreach to those individuals with special needs—thus began the partnership with DARS. There is a wide range of staff having special needs from hard of hearing and physical impairments to autistic individuals.
Mr. Wasai is fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend Bishop College which directed the pathway for him to accomplish his goals while continuing to strive to do the right thing. Mr. Wasai is married and the proud parent of three wonderful children LaDarius, George Jr. and Madison. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, fishing and gardening.
